It is not a secret that kinesiology helps to reduce severity of menopausal symptoms.

Did you know, that less than 100 years ago menopausal symptoms were considered a normal characteristic of "inferior" women’s nature?! Women who suffered depression and mood swings due to hormonal imbalance were pronounced mentally ill and sometimes were even locked in a mental asylum. Hot flushes were understood to be the expression of female unsound character, signs of guilt, shame and inappropriate emotional outbursts.

Nowadays this attitude is changed. There is more research into female physiology. Menopause is no longer considered being the time of loss of sexuality and loss of social status. There is an understanding that there is life after menopause, and the transition does not have to be a painful one.

As part of my Advanced Diploma, I did a student research assignment on the effectiveness of kinesiology for menopausal hot flushes. I would like to share the results of my work with you.

what exactly is menopause?

Menopause is a change in hormonal regulation triggered by the brain. It affects the function of ovaries and specifically the production of androgen hormones. The balance between estrogen and progesterone appears to be instrumental in creating unpleasant symptoms.

There are four main female hormones that are released by the ovaries and the pituitary gland at different times of the female cycle. These hormones are Luteinizing hormone, Estrogen, Progesterone, and Follicle Stimulating Hormone. The synchronicity of production and release of these hormones is crucial to the regulatory functions of the female body, including the wake-sleep cycle, energy production and temperature regulation. The disruption of the female hormonal cycle has such a pervasive effect, that it is no wonder that it includes a wide range of symptoms from hot flushes to joints pain, and from changes in libido to bladder control. How kinesiology can help?

Kinesiology is a method of communication with the body directly (or with the subconscious that runs the body). The following are a few crucial points that will give you an idea of how kinesiology works with menopausal symptoms:

1. Stress is not in your head, stress is in your physiology. A kinesiologist reviews the hormonal regulation cycle and determines stress levels at different stages of the endocrine regulatory processes. Kinesiology uses energy medicine technique to eliminate the stress at the energetic level and allows the body to resume its normal function.

2. Lifetime accumulated stress remains in the body-mind system and creates adverse health outcomes. Several clinical studies observed that women who live in a supportive environment, have a stable financial position and better socioeconomic background, suffer fewer and less severe menopausal symptoms. If you had an emotionally turbulent past, the memory of it remains in your system. During my sessions, I determine what negative belief systems are on the way of your optimal health and what is required to change it. The techniques I use include affirmations, sound therapy, acupressure and various energy medicine techniques.

3. Implicit memory is reflected in the physiology.

Unlike our limited, short-lived, unreliable conscious memory, subconscious memory (or implicit memory) is perfect and remembers 100% of all our experiences. Whenever we have a thought, an emotion or a sensory experience, our physiology responds accordingly, and both: the information and the physiological response, are retained in the implicit memory. Often, the cause of a problem is due to an unassimilated emotional experience at a young age, before the formation of conscious memory. Using the techniques mentioned above, in my sessions, I allow my clients to process these early experiences and to restore their optimal health.

my research project

Out of 6 women who I recruited for my research, 2 improved a lot, more than 80%; 2 improved moderately, around 50%, one showed exactly the same frequency and severity of hot flushes as before the treatment; and one had more hot flushes after the treatment than before. The average result for the whole group is around 30%.

Why are the results so different?

No two people are alike and women with similar issues may need different treatment. Thyroid dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, prolong sleep issues, low immunity and other issues affect hormonal regulation. Kinesiology is unique in a way that it allows to design a treatment plan tailored specifically to the client’s needs, suitable for their body type and appropriate for their psychological makeup. Unfortunately, this is impossible to replicate in clinical research. Thus, all subjects in this study received identical kinesiology procedure, regardless of their personal circumstances.

kinesiology treatment is personalised, taking into consideration individual history, personality type and body preferences

What did participants say?

In addition to the severity and frequency of hot flushes, I asked the participants general questions about their health and well-being. Here is what they say:

i. Sleep. Menopause affects sleep. As a result of kinesiology treatment sleep, quality and duration fluctuated and varied a lot during the treatment, from the deepest and prolong sleep to shallow and intermitted. After the treatment, sleep quality improved for most participants.

ii. Temperature. Perception of temperature changed. One woman noticed with delight that now when hot flushes subside, she can feel cold. Several women notice that even though they got warm from time to time, they were not always sure whether the temperature increase was a hot flush.

iii. Emotional changes. Almost all women reported becoming more aware of their emotions. Several said that after the kinesiology sessions they felt more at peace with their emotions and more accepting of them.

iv. Improved self-esteem. Half of my subjects noticed improvements in self-esteem, increased assertiveness and better personal boundaries.

v. Relaxed and happy. All women said that they feel happier at the end of the treatment. Although this meant different things for different people, specific descriptions included feeling more uplifted, energetic, calmer, relaxed, “less irritable”,” less angry”, and generally “feeling good”. Two women said that they “felt lighter”. And two other women used the expression of “becoming my old self”.

Hot flushes are a common issue. And there are many treatments available on the market from Hormones Replacement Therapy to acupuncture. Each of these methods has their strong points and limitations. It is up to you to find the most suitable option. Kinesiology for hot flushes is non-invasive, uses the body’s natural power to heal and is very relaxing. It does not have any side effects. Well, let me correct myself, the side effects of kinesiology are all positive. You may gain high self-esteem! You may get rid of insomnia! You may feel calmer and happier! Who does not want that as a side effect!
