What is kinesiology? And what kinesiology is not?

Having written dozens of posts and articles about what is kinesiology, I now take a different approach. I would like to dispel myths about kinesiology and write about what kinesiology is not.

Why is it important? My mission is to introduce as many people as possible to the art and the science of metaphysical healing with kinesiology. However, the experience may be disappointing if it does not match your expectations.

MUSCLE TESTING IS NOT KINESIOLOGY

Kinesiology uses muscle testing, but it is not just muscle testing.

To say that kinesiology is muscle testing is like saying that gardening is the same as earth digging, or a dressmaker is anyone who can use scissors!

Kinesiology uses muscle testing, but it is not muscle testing.

There are many components to the kinesiology skill, such as basics of anatomy and physiology, understanding of central nervous system, knowledge of etheric anatomy, knowledge of energy laws according to traditional Chinese medicine, counselling skills, and of cause the skill of muscle testing. The motor pattern to combine all these knowledge and skills in a coherent smoothly choreographed performance takes years to develop.

The main distinction between people who practice muscle monitoring and kinesiologists is that the former look for information, and the later use this information to facilitate change on energetic level.

KINESIOLOGY IS NOT A MASSAGE

Kinesiology is often compared to massage because it relaxes the whole body including individual muscle groups. However, unlike massage, the relaxation is achieved through energy medicine means, not physical pressure and kneading.

Kinesiology is not a massage

Unlike massage, each kinesiology session has a specific purpose, goal, an objective.

A relaxation also can be an objective for a kinesiology session. Your kinesiologist will investigate what makes you tense – emotions, past experiences, behavioural habits, postural imbalance, hormonal imbalance, anxiety, or any other reasons.

The purpose of a kinesiology session is to dissolve what causes tension and ensure that it will not reoccur in the future. This process can take several sessions and the results may take several days to appear.

KINESIOLOGY IS NOT A REIKI

Reiki is based on a concept that there is a layer of healing energy that surrounds the Earth and every person can access it.

Energy medicine techniques are used in kinesiology, but kinesiology is not the same as Reiki.

Kinesiology is based on a concept that we all have the healing power within.

The reasons we are not in perfect health and harmony, are also inside us. In my sessions, I use a number of techniques to dissolve the blocks on the way of better health and more fulfilling life.

Although kinesiology techniques include some elements of a reiki, like sending energy techniques, unlike Reiki kinesiology uses muscle biofeedback mechanism to determine individual stresses and means to remove them.

KINESIOLOGY IS NOT AN ACUPUNCTURE

Traditional Chinese Medicine describes in astonishing details laws of subtle energy flow, chi, in a human body. It teaches about various types of subtle energy, their origins and uses.

Non-intrusive acupoints stimulation is used in kinesiology.

Acupoints are access points to the flow of chi, the life energy. Stimulation of acupoints results in improvement of various health aspects. Acupuncturists use thin needles to improve the conductivity of Acupoints and stimulate energy flow in accordance with observations recorded over centuries.

Kinesiologists use muscle monitoring biofeedback mechanism to investigate energetic imbalances for client’s individual circumstances. The Acupoints stimulation is not done through needling but through a variety of non-intrusive techniques, such as touch, sound, flower essence or tapping.

KINESIOLOGY IS NOT A COUNSELLING SESSION

Although a kinesiology session is a good time to discuss what is weighing on your mind, the therapeutic intervention is not through pure sharing, venting, self-reflection and receiving how-to tips from your therapist.

Kinesiology is not a counselling session.

The function of the central nervous system is greatly affected by our emotions, diet, medications and even time of the day. To name just a few examples:

  • Feeling of a mental block under stress

  • Left–right confusion when under pressure

  • Mental fog of depression

  • Cotton wool thinking after some medications

  • Decisions one makes in the morning are qualitatively different from those made late at night

This means that your life story changes depending on when you are telling it and to whom.

Kinesiology works with the neurological mechanisms that shape and govern your perception of the world and experiences. What makes kinesiology a superior personal development tool is that the energy work is done on a deep level that allows shifting the stresses from the body-mind system. This creates room for learning new behaviours, generating a new perspective and allowing new experiences. Kinesiology work results in the rapid personal growth.

KINESIOLOGY IS NOT A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL

While many health and wellness practitioners use muscle monitoring to determine what foods, supplements and even holiday destinations (!) agree with you, I would not trust this method for finding out what suits my body.

Muscle monitoring is based on biofeedback mechanism, a very real physiological function.

It determines present time stress that is greater than 50%. If you place a capsule of magnesium on your navel and your muscle indicates stress, this is all that it says – it’s stressed!

Kinesiology is not a diagnostic tool.

What it may mean, requires interpretation, such as

  • You are taking too much magnesium, or

  • You are taking too little magnesium, or

  • You are taking the wrong kind of magnesium, or

  • No matter how much magnesium you are taking, it will go through you, because your body cannot absorb, retain and put it to good use, or

  • Toxins in your body interfere with the utilization of magnesium, or

  • Capsules are not the best way for you to take magnesium, or …

Possibilities are endless! Which one you choose?!

When you use this test as part of a kinesiology session, the stress associated with a nutrient or a substance becomes a part of further energy work. At the end of the session more often than not, this stress is resolved.

Kinesiology does not give you information, it gives your experience and resolution.

KINESIOLOGY IS NOT THE SAME AS PHYSIOTHERAPY

Using knowledge of anatomy, physiology and neuroscience physiotherapistS design treatments (which often includes exercises and specialised massage) to re-train the body to healthy movement.

Kinesiology resets neurological integrity of muscles, but it uses different methods from physiotherapy.

Kinesiology is based on a concept that knowledge of physiology combined with energy medicine, can be used to stimulate the self-healing power of the body. Mainstream medical science has already seen some research into mind-body connection. For instance, a recent study discovered that when combined with counselling sessions, physiotherapy is more effective for treating chronic whiplash pain. https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/lifematters/new-whiplash-treatment-could-change-lives/9907776

And that is exactly what kinesiology offers - healing physical conditions through a combination of muscle work and investigation into emotional stress.

KINESIOLOGY IS NOT A MIRACLE ON TAP

A miracle is a quick change, that occurs seemingly from nowhere. Now, how quick is quick? And where is no-where? Although in most cases people feel relief immediately after their kinesiology session, a lasting change requires more than one treatment. Quality and efficiency of results from a kinesiology session compare very favourably with many other modalities. Still, one session may not fix you!

if you are looking for a genie in a bottle, kinesiology may not be able to help.

There is an element of mystery in the way kinesiology works. The principle is however not new. Most mystical and spiritual traditions have some variation of the understanding that our personal world consists of 3 types of things:

  • Things we know (ego mind)

  • Things know we don’t know (conscious mind)

  • Things we don’t know that we don’t know. (subconscious mind) All new things, inventions, transformations and healings come from this place.

Kinesiology is not a miracle, because like any other healing modality it requires continuity of treatment and a commitment to change.

The healing does not come from a magic wand, but from the part of ourselves where our conscious and ego minds do not have direct access.

KINESIOLOGY IS NOT A PSYCHIC READING

It is true that kinesiology facilitates dialogue between your rational conscious mind and your subconscious. This makes some to believe that with the help of kinesiology they can find out all sorts of information about themselves, such as:

  • · Is this person right for me?

  • · Why I am putting on weight?

  • · What is the best out of two alternatives?

Muscle monitoring does not tell future or absolute truth. It merely indicates stress.

The misconception is that all you need to turn things around is that bit of information.

Kinesiology offers a transformational experience, not information.

There is a reason why you are hiding from yourself. You may self-sabotage yourself due to a particular investment, a survival strategy, a personal lesson encoded in the way you are.

A kinesiology session has the potential to lead you to the dissolution of inner limitations. But it is not done by providing you with information.

SUMMARY

To summarise, here is what kinesiology is NOT:

  • NOT a massage. I will not press, knead and pull, but you will feel relaxed and pampered.

  • NOT a Reiki. I will not dispense healing energy, but I will enhance your own ability to heal yourself.

  • NOT an acupuncture. I will not use needles, but I will improve your chi flow.

  • NOT a counselling session. I will not ask you to repeat your story, but I will help you to let go of it.

  • NOT a diagnostic tool. I will not give you a medical term for your suffering, but I will help you to feel better.

  • NOT a physiotherapy. I will not give you exercises to do, but you will love easy and pain-free freedom of movement.

  • NOT a miracle on tap. I do not have a magic wand, but your reality may change unrecognizably.

  • NOT a psychic reading. I cannot tell you what you what your future holds, but you will feel in peace connected to the wisdom within.

Kinesiology has elements of many healing modalities! This is why it is such a versatile tool suitable for many conditions and issues. If you want to find out how I can help you, please contact me here.
